Sigit Pius Kuncoro

“FASTEN YOUR SEATBELT“, 2004
Video, 4:40 min.

During research for an interview project with young girls in Indonesia about the use of their cell phones, Pius Sigit Kuncoro made a discovery which shocked him: he found a former classmate in a self-made porno film that had been shot on a mobile phone. The artist interviewed the former classmate for this work and asked her about the reasons for taking part in a film of this nature. Generational conflicts and parental ingnorance appear as central motives for this particular form of self-exhibition. The work, Fasten your Seatbelt, examines the promises and power relationships related to that participation as well as the observer role bound up with the mobile telephone.
